Wednesday morning we woke up to our first Ice Storm! Everything was covered in ice...the sidewalks, the streets, the trees, the grass, and even our picnic table. It was pretty, but it was a little slippery and scary too!

Our Favorite Christmas Tradition--This Time in NYC!
For the last several years we have taken our family to Salt Lake City a few days before Christmas. We stay over night in a hotel and enjoy the lights at Temple Square, a little swimming, a movie, or ice skating at the Gallivan Plaza. Well, even though we aren't in Utah, we still wanted to continue our favorite holiday tradition. This year we went into NYC and stayed right in Times Square at the Marriott Marquis. It was a Christmas get-away our family will always remember. We had so much fun!
The kids got out of school early on the 23rd. We left shortly after and rode the train into the city.
We packed for our whole family in one suitcase! (I hope you're impressed! I was...and Ryan was grateful!) Our first stop was Macy's to see Santa Clause. The store was crazy! It was wall to wall full of people doing their last minute Christmas shopping. The line to see Santa was no different. It was an hour and a half wait to sit on Santa's lap. Our kids were hungry and waiting in line wasn't an option! We had already mailed letters to Santa, so telling him our Christmas wishes wasn't necessary, we just wanted to have a peek. Thankfully, there was another line where you could do just that--see Santa (and the lucky children and weary parents) through a little glass window. Our kids were thrilled to see him and even got a little Macy's pin!
Our next stop was the hotel. We checked in and got something to eat in the Concierge Lounge--the food was great and our room was even better. We had an incredible view of Times Square. Laurie especially loved looking out the window!
After a little breather and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" we were ready to go again!
We walked over to Rockefeller Plaza and saw the big, beautiful Christmas tree. We also saw Alvin, one of the Chipmunks too! Logan was more excited about seeing him than the tree! We watched the ice skaters and then headed to 5th Avenue and to see the amazing window displays at Saks. The American Girl Store was closed, but Ryan made sure Emily had a peek!
Our last stop for the night was the big Toys R Us. We had the kids pick out a toy to donate the next morning at the Today Show for their annual Toy Drive. Well, that was the plan anyway! We got there and found out that they weren't collecting any more. It was raining so we didn't stay long, but walked over and watched Ann Curry through the window. We were about to leave when the substitute weatherman came out onto the Plaza! We were right behind him and were on TV at 9:30! As for the toys--we set them out on Christmas Eve and for Santa. We were sure he would know who to give them to!
Well, that sums up our Christmas in the City adventure! We made memories to last a lifetime! This is definitely one of my favorite traditions--this year will be hard to beat!
