LOGAN POOPED ON THE POTTY!
It was a fight to get him there--but he did it...twice even. When he was finished he looked at me and said, "That was Awesome!"
I thought this day would never come. Lets hope for a repeat tomorrow!

January in Review
Laurie has had a big month--she is crawling all over the place and pulling herself up on whatever is near. She also started feeding herself--she loves the Gerber Graduate Puffs, any flavor! However, paper is still her favorite thing to eat! She recently discovered the toilet (we wish Logan would!!) Her biggest accomplishment this month has taken place inside her mouth! When we left for Utah over Christmas break she had two little teeth on the bottom, well--one month later she has 8 and she's not afraid to use them (unfortunately for me!!!) Laurie is truly a little ray of sunshine. She is always happy! This last week she has started to flash a big cheesy grin--it makes us all laugh out loud. It is so funny--she squints her eyes, wrinkles up her nose, and smiles from ear to ear. It is the cutest and funniest thing. It chases the grumpies away in all of us! I love that little girl!
Logan (and I) have survived another month of unsuccessful potty training. HELP! I have tried it all...seriously I have! I don't know what else to do. I'll give him some credit, he is good about going #1 in the potty, but we can't get him to go #2 to save his life and my sanity! He is such a character and keeps my busy. I did have a sweet moment with him the other day. I was reading President Monson's talk from last conference--he came up and asked me about it and I quoted the last paragraph I had read--"Let us relish life as we live it, find joy in the journey and share our love with friends and family. One day each of us will run out of tomorrows." I explained to him that each of us will die and so we have to be happy and love life while we are here. He started to cry, to really sob, and said he didn't want to die and that he was scared. I hugged him for a long time and then pulled out my Plan of Salvation and taught him about why we are here and what happens after we die and how Jesus made it possible for us to live again. It was such a neat teaching moment for both of us. His tears stopped and he was fine after that!
Emily is going for the Gold! Their school started a program after the Christmas break called "TV Turn Off." It's an optional commitment that she signed up for. You could chose Gold, Silver, or Bronze. She decided to go for the gold which means she can't watch any TV or play the computer from Monday until after school on Friday. (Silver is a half an hour a day, and Bronze is an hour a day). She has done incredibly well and has found many other things to fill up her time--some of her favorites include baking with her Easy Bake Oven (she made a delicious Blueberry Shortcake the other day!), playing with Logan, watching Laurie, coloring, painting, reading, and walking around the house on her stilts. I am so proud of her for her desire to participate in the program. We just got her report card this week. She is doing so well! She's a smart little girl and an incredible reader.
Jackson is trying for the Bronze--he's doing great too! I was wondering if he would stick to it when he signed up, but he's doing awesome. He makes sure to get in a little computer time and at least one episode of Phineas and Ferb or The Suite Life of Zack and Cody! But when his time is up, he's on to something else! He has also been playing basketball this winter. He is a great little player. He made three baskets during his game the other night. It's been fun for us to watch him. He's improved quite a bit since the beginning of the season. We also got his report card too--perfect all the way around. We are so proud of him and his hard work at school.
Ryan is keeping busy with work and his new church responsibilities--he's back in the Bishopric! We had six months with him on the bench, but now he has returned to the stand. We are right in the middle of his busy season at work and I do feel a little like a single parent. When he's not at the office he's usually at the church! But the blessings are great and we are excited about his opportunity to serve in our ward.
I received a new calling too--I'm the primary chorister. I've never done this before and it's been good for me, a new challenge! We have been singing and playing a lot of the primary songs and I have loved the feeling it has brought into our home!
Well, that was January at our house! I'm glad it's February--we are enjoying weather in the 40's today...who would have thought the 40's would be so heavenly!

Groundhog Day
Well, the verdict is in...Punxsutawney Phil says 6 more weeks of winter! (FYI - I'm so ready for spring!!!) But, there is something far more important happening today!!!
Happy Birthday Sue-per Mom!!
She turned 29 (again) today! Last week she mentioned she might make the jump to 30 this year! I was a little surprised and told her to think it through carefully and not rush into anything! Once you're out of your twenties you can't go back! This morning when I called her I was relieved to hear she is still 29! I won't tell you how young she really is, but if you're good at math--add one and multiply by two! It's a big year and I want her to know how much I love and appreciate her.
My mom is the most selfless and loving person. She is always serving and helping everyone around her. She always puts others first and continuously goes the extra mile. When she stayed with our kids a few months ago while Ryan and I went on a trip, she ironed everything in every closet of our house...no kidding. Ryan was in heaven. Thank you mom for your kindness to us and also for your example.
My mom is a woman of incredible faith. She has a great love for Jesus Christ and his gospel. I remember as a teenager going down the hall to my bedroom--and night after night would see my mom on her knees. She used to have visible dents in her carpet where she would kneel to pray. They have since remodeled their bedroom--I'll have to check out her new carpet next time we are in Utah!
My mom always remembers the important (and not so important) events in my life and the lives of my children. We talk most every day and am thankful for her interest in our family. She is a wonderful grandma and my kids love her very much!
There is so much more, but I want to make sure I get this posted on her special day. Happy Birthday Mom! I love you and wish you at least 29 more great years!
